January 2013

January 28, 2013, from The River Farm Visitors' Book

Thank you so much River View Cottages for having us, and forcing us to relax away from our city and it’s life. Wishing you all a very Happy New Year, and we look forward to seeing you again.
Arthur and Kim, Cape Town.

Lovely place full of stunning colours, log all your dogs! Thanks for the memorable experience and have a Happy New Year.
Justine and Dan, Australia.

Beautiful! One can’t help but wonder if all this wasn’t put in place for the sole benefit of Jock. Just think about it. He has a constant stream of admirers, play-mates, and love. If it is a dog’s life, then I wan to be Jock, as he has the dog’s life extraordinair! Thanks Bronwyn and Colin for sharing this place with all of us, and thanks Jock for your constant undemanding companionship.
Justin, Germany.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful place! We had the most wonderful day with swimming, hiking, canoeing and all that with the best company, Jock. Jess came last night to watch the stars with us. Thank you, Jess for visiting. I don’t think I have ever seen so many stars in my life. We will be back and take the memories so long.
Jesa.

One nights stay feels like being here for long.
Getting up at 06:00am feels like “let’s go and grab it!”
Having Jock with us feels like knowing him for ages (is that because of Boerewors?).
Watching the turtle passing by feels like calming down.
Sitting on the terrace just feels like “thank you”!
love,
Lana. Hamburg, Germany.

What an amazing “let the soul fly place”. It could easily feel like home!…and I think Justin was right about Jock! All the best,
Stefan. Hamburg, Germany.

Thanks for a wonderful stay once again. We hope we haven’t worn the dogs out! Hope to see you again.
Jason and Cheryl, Cape Town. The sun has reached the peaks across the valley and I am sitting in perfect simplicity in this early morning. It’s tempting me to stay forever, but how? Till next time. Thank you for this taste of bliss.
Lexi.

What made me say “yes” to a 600k trip to spend one night on a farm? And so on January 1st 2013 I found myself, not just on any old farm but in a haven of tranquility and raw beauty where hopes and dreams forgotten – surfaced. The bleakness of the last couple of years is lifting – staying here is the catalyst – Joy has been returned and with it hope, for the future – I will not regret the past nor fear the future. Thank you, Bronwyn, and blessings.

This is the most beautiful place I have staying in in a long while. Thank you, my soul feels healed. Love,
Sue.

Only stayed for one night (shame I could not stay for more). Had a lovely time, beautiful place, would try to come back in different season. Thank you. And kisses for Jock, our security dog.
Gosia and Chris.

Had a lovely peaceful stay, thanks Bronwyn. Your cottages are beautiful and I know we will be back.
Clare and James.

Enjoyed the spectacular setting and walk by the river – birdwatching, impressive sunrise before we left.
Sandie and Simon.

Sam and Ingrid.

It was more than a weekend away. It was an answered prayer. On the weekend my family was burying my grandfather in the States. Eric and I left Cape Town to find a sense of reprieve. Here we found peace along our morning walk, serenity on our afternoon canoe and gratefulness on our evenings under the stars. A special place filled with unprecedented hospitality. Aesthetic appreciation and warmth. We return with new hearts.
Eric (Cape Town) and Kamey (New York).

Dear Bronwyn, Many thanks for a magical weekend… all made special by the apricot picking, the little treasures from the plants on our hikes, the river, the glimpses of sunset, the picture-postcard mountain and valley views, the tortoise who visited on the last day and, even the giraffe we spotted just before the ‘left turn’. But mostly it was your warm hospitality and welcome that makes it a place we would want to return to. Warm regards,
Sherin. Cape Town.

Thanks so much, and enjoy your little slice of heaven…
Justin

The Old School House:

Hi Bronwyn, Many thanks once again for your hospitality – it was fantastic and our kids really enjoyed it.
We may be back again in a couple of weeks but I will let you know as soon as I have finalised. Best regards,
Kevin. Cape Town.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for the amazing experience staying in the old schoolhouse.
It was a few magical days – Anton took some magnificent photos and I will send them on to you as soon as he has a finished product. Kind regards,
Karien, Glasgow, Scotland.

You said Colin searched with you, driven by his passion. Passion, persistence, love and joy live simply together in the dream valleys, caves, mountains, long streams. Life is a brief flash – One only of challenge. To find the right food that satisfies our genetic need for a place we might call, and earn the right to truly feel our own. Off the main road after sunset, the light gentle and the path ambitiously seeking a route, we followed to this gem you found and home made sharable to all who might hear by the marvelous grapevine of those who love these stars, cool water, crackling heat and your otter-hounds who swim like they were born to chase every fish and otter. We all feel warm toward you all – the book selection, the balanced sized, simply perfect green, fitting the shadow zone of the school. We felt honoured to be allowed to be here and thank Ian Cumming for his suggestion we find you. Much love,
Catherine (Melbourne, Australia), Henk (Observatory), Katrine, and Konrad (Hout Bay).
